8 Reasons to Attend the UMS 2015
What Does the 2015 Underground Music Showcase Have to Offer?
In just a few weeks, the 15th annual Underground Music Showcase will take over South Broadway. 400 bands will perform in over 20 venues, making July 23-26 the best four days of the summer. If you’re contemplating whether or not to buy tickets, here are a few reasons why you should attend one of the biggest festivals in the country, with a little help from the UMS’ event director, Kendall Smith.
1. There are 4 days of music.
Four days, 400 bands and over 20 venues – the UMS isn’t just a one-day thing, plus all of the days are back-to-back. The shows will start on Thursday, July 23rd and will continue until Sunday, July 26th. You won’t want to miss it!
2. The UMS gives local bands the chance to get noticed.
“The UMS was a passion project started by John Moore, a former writer for the Denver Post,” said Kendall Smith. “He wanted to showcase bands in the area he thought weren’t getting the attention they deserve. The first year included Devotchka. Seems he was on to something there.”
3. New local talent will be on full display.
Every year at the UMS, you can see some of your favorite local and national bands, plus some brand new talent. We encourage you to check out your favorites on the event list, but also see some new bands that you might not have seen before! You never know which band will become your new go-to.
4. The bands can nominate themselves to perform.
“The booking team climbs a giant mountain of goodness. It is always difficult,” said Smith. “There is so much talent in this region right now. There are some acts who are invited, and the rest submit through the web site. From there, it is a lot of listening and curating.”
5. Your favorite national bands will come to you – all in one weekend.
Headliners for this year’s UMS include STRFKR, DIIV and Tennis, with other national favorites like Milo Greene, Brick + Mortar, Residual Kid and more.
6. Each of the 20 venues are close to each other in proximity.
With about 100 performances each of the four days, there are over 20 venues taking part in the UMS. The main stage will be near the Goodwill, the Hi-Dive will have shows daily, plus coffee shops will also showcase live music.
7. Schomp MINI is a part of the action!
“We are always looking for good partners,” Smith said. “It is through their support that we can keep ticket prices so reasonable. MINI is such a great brand. We feel like they fit well with the event. The folks at Schomp are a joy to work with. This feels like the beginning of a beautiful relationship.”
